Instruments: Trumpet Trombone Euphonium French Horn Tuba
Although my primary instrument is trumpet, I am adept at teaching all instruments within the brass family. For beginners, I don't even want to focus on music and notes as much as I like to emphasize the sound. If it doesn't sound good then whats the point of building on top of that and developing bad habits? I like to focus primarily on the fundamentals in the beginning because that only makes it easier as time goes on. Read More
Instruments: Guitar Voice Electric Guitar Acoustic Guitar
For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. I'm looking forward to working with you, teaching you, not only how to play guitar, but how to discover your love for music. Read More
Instruments: Flute Piccolo
My number one goal is to help develop a lifelong passion for music in students of all ages! I encourage each student to work at his or her own best pace by working together to set SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, time oriented) goals for each week, month, etc., and then celebrate with the student when the goals are reached! It is important to me to customize my teaching to each student's individual learning styles, needs, and desires! Read More
Instruments: Flute Piccolo
It is my goal to customize the lesson experience for every student that I teach. Most beginners benefit from a method book, such as Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, which is a good starting place for most students. As students progress on their instrument, I choose the method books and solos that will best help them develop their talents as well as keep them engaged in the material. During my years on the flute, I have used a wide variety of methods that I have found successful for different techniques, so I can effectively select what material will help each student become successful. Once 2 method books have been completed, simple repertoire from Bach, Beethoven, and Mozart will be introduced to the student in order to expand their knowledge into the wonderful world of classical music that we know. Electric and Bass guitar students will learn basic chord shapes, music theory, composition, improvisation, and scales/arpeggios. Read More

Instruments: Piano Voice Trumpet Saxophone Flute Clarinet Recorder French Horn Piccolo Oboe Conga Keyboard
In the past, I have used several different band methods and generally like to first use the book that the students' school district is using. As the student becomes more accomplished, I supplement with method books and solo literature from the repertoire of the individual instrument. For the younger student, additionally, I like to work with improvising and making up his/her own songs, so that they enjoy and develop a sense of accomplishment in composing their own music.
