With a degree in Music Education, I have maintained a career as a professional singer, voice teacher, vocal coach and musical director for more than forty years, focusing on vocal production, technique, and performance skills for both solo and choral ensembles. I like to set attainable, yet challenging goals for each student. Ensuring that each student progresses at his or her own pace will encourage the development of a love for music. I try to acknoweldge a student's progress in order to inspire a desire to keep learning. Each lesson includes some technical exercises, a theory component, and other components pertinent to the specific instrument. I typically begin with an age appropriate method book, supplemented by customized materials I create for each student. The initial focus is on FUNdamentals and understanding basic music theory. As soon as appropriate, I begin to incorporate solo literature selected by the student as well as provide assistance with any school band/orchestra assignments. I began teaching privately in college in 2000. Since then I have maintained a studio of students in my home and in their homes. I believe focused, goal-specific practice sessions are key to developing a love for music and one's on instrument. Many of my students have earned superiors at state festivals and have won music scholarships to various schools. I strive to have each student develop individual goals for themselves and their musical experiences; whether it be simply getting better for the love of playing, or striving to perfect their skills to excel at various auditions.
