As a believer in the "magic" of positive reinforcement, I don't see any other way in encouraging my students to make progress. During a lesson, we first review material that was assigned to practice from the previous lesson. Clear instruction on how to make progress is given, as well as practice goals for the next lesson. I started teaching in college and started with some friends that wanted to learn how to play the piano and sing. After graduation I went and taught in Chicago for a few years and Greenville SC where I was the music teacher in both schools. I graduated from Austin Peay State University in 2013 with a BS in Vocal Performance. I was in a world renowned children's choir back home in PR, called San Juan Children's Choir, for 10 years. Hi! Im Kristen. Im a mezzo soprano. I love performing and teaching others the art of performing. I am passionate about helping singers improve their voices and learn how to love them. I love to prepare them for whatever goals they may have, whether that be singing in a choir, being on Broadway, singing at Church, preparing for college auditions, or just singing in your living room. I first find out a little bit about my students musical likes and taste, or, with younger students, find somethingfun that interests them, just to find some common ground. I also find out a students long term goals. For instance, if a student seeks to be a opera singer as opposed to a worship leader, the training needs to be more pointed towards classical pieces and Arias instead of learning church music and how to engage a crowd. In 2012, I graduated from the American Band College of Sam Houston State University with my Master's of Music degree in Conducting, and in 2008 I graduated from the Western Carolina University Honors College with my Bachelor's degree in Music Education.
