I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love for music. I believe in having fun while learning, and building my lessons around what the students are interested in when teaching the fundamentals of playing. I have been professionally performing since 2008, from major venues to private events. I have learned not only the ins and outs of playing a guitar, but also how to really bring a song to life and connect with an audience. Read More

While attaining my degree I had practicums on the elementary, middle school and did my student teaching at Cedar Ridge high school. I have a year of teaching Chorus in the Guilford public school system. I also have musical theater experience. My teaching style will vary with the learning style of the student. If the student is a kinesthetic learner, we may get up from the keyboard and express the rhythm through motion. The important thing to keep in mind in any student's journey is that some days it is going to come easily and other times it will seem like your student is frustrated as he or she strives to master a new skill. I use an integrated style of lesson that is custom-made to each individual student regarding his/her voice type and needs, as well as different areas of music language that need more studying, like theory, music notation, solfege, rhythm, basic piano technique, ear training. When a student is ready, subjects like stage presence and audition technique become part of our lessons. But first and foremost rule in my studio is to have fun while learning. My studio is a no-judgement zone, where I encourage my students to be free, to express themselves. Read More

With each new student, I assess their abilities and goals. From this information, I will make a decision reagrding which method I will use to teach the students their instrument. As lessons progress, the curriculum becomes more challenging. Depending on each students abilities and goals, I will most likely one of the following methods: Faber, Alfred, John Thompson, or Suzuki. In addition to teaching students how to play their instrument, each of these methods include supplemental theory materials, helping students to understand the language of music, which helps them become even better musicians. I start off by addressing breath and phonation, even with the mostadvanced singers, because singing, like anything in life, is alwaysabout the fundamental basics. I give students exercises that will helpthe student find their true and most efficient voice. I help buildmuscles that will aid in this as well. It is all about whatever worksfor the student too, because if one thing works for one student, itmay not work for another. Read More

There is nothing more rewarding for me than the "lightbulb" moments. To see a student light up with excitement over the satisfaction of knowing he or she has been able to achieve or conquer a concept or a piece of music is so awesome for me. I love helping students travel the process of going from point A to Z. I love the challenge of inspiring students through the difficult times when it would be easier to just give up and quit.
