ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:

Bachelor of Science, University of Maryland, Music Education/Vocal Major.         N.J. Teaching Certification K-12

Overview:
I'm a passionate and motivated voice teacher who loves working with students of all ages and sharing my love of music and singing.  I graduated from the University of Maryland in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science in Music Education, Vocal Major.  One of the greatest experiences of my life as a musician was having the opportunity to perform twice at The White House for President Johnson with the University of Maryland Madrigal Singers.  What I enjoy most about teaching voice is watching each student’s growth and improvement from week to week and helping them achieve their musical goals!
EXPERIENCE
With a degree in Music Education, I have maintained a career as a professional singer, voice teacher, vocal coach and musical director for more than forty years, focusing on vocal production, technique, and performance skills for both solo and choral ensembles. My students are currently appearing and have appeared on Broadway (Hamilton, Moulin Rouge, Anastasia, Aladdin, Frozen, The King and I, Mamna Mia!, Les Miserables, Tommy, Ragtime, A Christmas Carol),in national and international tours (Hamilton, West Side Story, Mamma Mia!, Catch Me If You Can, Fame, Memphis),on television, in commercials, movies, and regional theatres. As a performing artist, my personal credits include Broadway, off-Broadway, cabaret, dinner theatre, church and synagogue soloist and numerous recordings. I have also appeared with Labors of Love, a benefit for Broadway Cares / Equity Fights AIDS and was a featured soloist on their 2001 Christmas CD, Carols for a Cure.
METHODS USED
As a musical theatre performer, voice teacher and coach, I have learned the singer’s paramount need is to maintain vocal health and consistency of performance.  This is achieved by laying a foundation of solid vocal training, focusing on the healthy functional use of the voice with emphasis on the following aspects to develop a secure singing technique: ·         Determination of correct voice category and range ·         Proper breath support and natural resonance ·         Alignment of body and larynx ·         Relaxation of the jaw, tongue and pharynx ·         Correct diction and articulation ·         Ear training exercises ·         Repertoire selection appropriate to age and voice type ·         Interpretation-integrating text and musical expression
LESSON STYLE
My students are of varying ages and levels of proficiency, from the singer, dancer and actor with little or no previous vocal training, to the student serious about auditioning for college music programs or professional musical theater. Lessons are tailored to each student’s individual needs and cover a wide variety of vocal and musical styles such as classical, Broadway, pop, rock,  R & B, jazz and gospel. So whether you're trying out for your school show, auditioning for college music programs or Broadway, let me help you reach your musical goals!
