ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:

Bachelor Degree: Lenoir-Rhyne University, Graduate Degree: Lenoir-Rhyne University

Overview:

I graduated with my Bachelors of Music from Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, NC. I am currently finishing his Masters of Arts in Teaching degree from Lenoir-Rhyne as well. While at Lenoir-Rhyne I was involved in a various amount of ensembles, including the newly reformed “Spirit of LR” Marching Band where I was the Head Drum Major for three years. I was also involved in the Jazz Ensemble, Woodwind Ensemble, Trumpet Ensemble, Acapella Choir, College Singers, Wind Ensemble, and Wind Symphony. I was honored to serve as a student guest conductor for the LR Wind Symphony performing at the North Carolina Music Educators Association Conference in November of 2019. I also marched mellophone with the Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps for the 2016, 2017, and 2018 seasons.

EXPERIENCE

I have taught private Drum Major lessons and high school clinics to young students across Western and Central North Carolina. During the summer of 2019, I was honored to be an instructor at the Lenoir-Rhyne Youth Summer Music Camp, where I taught musicianship/theory and woodwinds. I currently student teach for partial fulfillment for my Master's degree at Hickory High School (Hickory, NC). I have held previous positions of visual caption head and drum major technician at Marvin Ridge High School in Waxhaw, NC. I have also taught clinics and leadership seminars at Hickory High School and Marvin Ridge High School.

METHODS USED

I am a firm believer in appropriate fundamentals are the key to stronger and healthier playing skills. In my lessons, I will encourage many types of fundamentals to round-out students playing abilities at the level which is most appropriate at the time. I work by the "Not good, Not bad, But better" philosophy. I will always focus on what the student needs and the best way for me to streamline their learning to achieve their playing objectives. I focus on what is important to make the student as successful as possible at the moment.

LESSON STYLE

In my lessons, I will encourage the student to work at their own pace, but making sure they fulfill the objectives as we move along. I want my student to be as comfortable as possible while pushing them to succeed simultaneously. I am a detail-oriented teacher who thoroughly enjoys seeing my students succeed and enjoy their musical journey. My ultimate goal is to give my students tools for a better life through music education. If I can use music to teach a greater life lesson, then my goals as an educator will be achieved.
