I look at each student individually to assess their potential and goals before setting a book or particular study plan. Once the student has begun basic technique exercises, I assign book levels and vocal repertoire that fits their interests as well as matching what I feel the student needs to be working on. I approach children and adults with the same methods: 1)Find out what the student's goals are. 2)Assign repertoire/technique exercises. that will help them reach those goals while allowing me to teach them the skills they need to attain those goals Read More

My teaching experience dates back to high school. I was a student leader in the marching band, serving as the woodwind captain for the marching band and the senior student conductor for the concert bands. With these positions, I was able to tutor peers and work on expanding my knowledge of teaching music. Once I graduated, I continued to be employed as the clarinet technician for the marching band at my high school for the next 4 years. Read More

When I teach, I strive to create custom lesson plans and materials that are tailored to each student's unique needs and goals. My methods involve taking the time to get to know my students and understanding their individual strengths and weaknesses. I use this information to create lesson plans that are realistic and achievable based on the amount of time the student has to practice. We will be making music quickly! Read More

Success will come to those who not only attempt to learn, but those who become obsessed with learning. Time is not important to me. If a student is willing to learn, I am willing to teach. To watch someone unravel the principles to music, to learn that with time and effort that they can play and express themselves to the level of any professional is very rewarding to me. All musical preferences welcomed. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

Music is a very physical thing as well as a very abstract thing. In my lessons, there will be kennistetic learning through movement as well as teaching through sensation. Using tools like Solfege it helps create muscle memory and tuning. Piano students will learn a wealth of theory knowledge, correct posture and fingering patterns. I will also encourage singing in my piano lessons to reaffirm the student's aural skills. The Alexander Technique is also something that my students will explore in our lessons. Read More

At the first lesson is just seeing where they are and what kind of music they would want to play(hymnal songs, gospel songs, soundtracks, opera, classical etc). Then at the beginning of each lesson would be theory(note recognition, counting, fingering etc). Then review on what they practiced for the week and if they are confident with the pieces add a few more songs. At Christmas time and the end of spring I like to have to have a recital for the students to play a few of the songs they learned for their friends and family. Read More
