I thoroughly enjoy customizing each student's lesson according to their learning ability and make sure they excel and have fun. I utilize most of the time the Alfred Piano method both for school age and adults. When I feel the student is ready I supplement quite a lot with the Hanon exercises,Czerny and the Master Theory workbook(this works very well with the student who also desires to learn to play by ear as well.) I like to set attainable, yet challenging goals for each student. Ensuring that each student progresses at his or her own pace will encourage the development of a love for music. I try to acknoweldge a student's progress in order to inspire a desire to keep learning. Each lesson includes some technical exercises, a theory component, and other components pertinent to the specific instrument. This sheet had different colored dots showing where to place the fingers to form basic open chords. I went on to learning country instrumentals, Surf music instrumentals, blues and 70's rock songs [Allman Brothers etc.]. I was amazed by the Chet Atkins style of playing so I buckled down on that. Fingerstyle playing on acoustic has become my favorite style to play. I am happy to share any bit of knowledge I have with someone who loves the sound of the guitar as much as I do. Read More

 Music is a very physical thing as well as a very abstract thing.  In my lessons, there will be kennistetic learning through movement as well as teaching through sensation. Using tools like Solfege it helps create muscle memory and tuning. Piano students will learn a wealth of theory knowledge, correct posture and fingering patterns. I began teaching when I was 15 years old, which was around the year 1984,in Brooklyn NY.I studied music at Samuel J Tilden High School and taught bass at Meyer Levin J.H.S two afternoons a week after school..In 1989 I moved to Charlotte NC, attended college and began working in various bands.I had to stop teaching for a short period of time due to my busy gig schedule.It wasn't long before I discovered that there was something missing in my life,and that something was teaching music.I have taught students from the ages of 9,which is the age that I started playing, all the way up to 60 years old.I encourage my students to practice and to have fun at the same time.I want them to not be afraid to try something such as listening to their favorite music and attempting to play it by ear.That is what I did when I was taking lessons.It is good training for the ear.When I see my students develop their craft and a love for music, that is one of the greatest feelings.
