In the past, I have used several different band methods and generally like to first use the book that the students' school district is using. As the student becomes more accomplished, I supplement with method books and solo literature from the repertoire of the individual instrument. For the younger student, additionally, I like to work with improvising and making up his/her own songs, so that they enjoy and develop a sense of accomplishment in composing their own music. I'm extremely passionate about making music and enabling others to make music. In 2010, I graduated from Presbyterian College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sacred Music. During my time at PC, I sang and accompanied the Presbyterian College Choir, Cantare! Men's Chorus, and many other students. Since graduating I have served full-time as a musician in the church - singing, playing piano and organ, and teaching lessons in each congregation. Read More

I look at each student individually to assess their potential and goals before setting a book or particular study plan. Once the student has begun basic technique exercises, I assign book levels and vocal repertoire that fits their interests as well as matching what I feel the student needs to be working on. I approach children and adults with the same methods: 1)Find out what the student's goals are. 2)Assign repertoire/technique exercises. that will help them reach those goals while allowing me to teach them the skills they need to attain those goals Read More

My number one goal is to help develop a lifelong passion for music in students of all ages! I encourage each student to work at his or her own best pace by working together to set SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, time oriented) goals for each week, month, etc., and then celebrate with the student when the goals are reached! It is important to me to customize my teaching to each student's individual learning styles, needs, and desires! Read More
