When I think about a student learning wintry to put myself in there shoes. They want to feel like they have something to show for the time that they were the class session. . if we have an hour session and at the end of the session they can go out and show off what they learned then they will. It be as motivated to come back.... So my method is to teach them while at the same time giving a practical aspect where they have something that can show and practice to develop the skill learned in the proviso session. Read More

I often teach by using a book of my choice as a lesson guide.I generally start every lesson by practicing finger exercises by running up and down the neck and also practice alternating the fingers with the picking hand. This is proper technique that will develop great speed and also great tone. After the exercises we go through the lessons outlined in the book.At the end of each lesson,I give my students, assignments to practice in their spare time ,which are based on the exercises from book. They are usually things that we have gone through during the lessons.I encourage my students to call or text me if it's something that they don't understand.I am more than happy to be of assistance. It has been a delight to be involved in both band and choral musical activities. Read More

I first find out a little bit about my students musical likes and taste, or, with younger students, find somethingfun that interests them, just to find some common ground. I also find out a students long term goals. For instance, if a student seeks to be a opera singer as opposed to a worship leader, the training needs to be more pointed towards classical pieces and Arias instead of learning church music and how to engage a crowd. While Alfred's method also teaches position playing, it also dives into intervallic reading. Many true, albeit arranged, baroque, romantic, and classical piano pieces are featured without a lot of fluff and fanfare. This may be an ideal method for most of students. The Alfred method is featured in a variety of books, including an all-in-one piano course for children, a prep course, and a basic piano library, completely correlated and presented in progressive levels. For beginning students on guitar i typically start wih Hal Leonards book 1. With about 50 pages in this book, we can go thru at a steady pace and be playing songs from the beginning. Makeing music from the very beginning is the key ! Even the simple one line practice exercizes i back up with a harmonic chordal accompaniment for a satisfying duet. The basic learning books I use to accomplish having the student play music from the very beginning. Read More

I believe in creating individual course plans for each student. I always ask what the student wants to learn and if he has any particular songs he wants to learn to play. I try to teach him something basic as soon as possible that he can share with family and friends. This helps keep him interested. I teach how to hold and tune a guitar, left hand positioning, using all four fretting fingers and other basics. Read More
