I began teaching my first piano student when I was 14 years old. I have since enjoyed teaching in many different ways. I've taught private students, homeschool choruses, pre-K-8th grade (using music curriculum that I created), 8th grade science students, large choirs of beautiful angelic children's voices, adult church choirs, youth and adult bands, gospel choirs, reading literacy students,and soldier medicshow to prepare for their responsibilities. Teaching for me began as a complete accident but the love for it has been undying ever since. At the Berklee Day Sessions Summer Program in 2011, I played in and directed ensembles of musicians aged 10-13. I bonded with a guitar player and on the day of the recital, got my first private instruction student for bass guitar. There is nothing more rewarding than knowing that I have shared my knowledge and passion with a student and they grew from it. I believe that every student learns differently, so I teach lessons according to how they learn. For beginning brass players, my favorite method for individual instruction in the "Breeze Easy" method, by John Kinyon. These books have fun and engaging entry-level pieces for students to play. Once students have gone through each book and developed certain fundamental skills, I will encourage them to move on to more advanced books such as the Arban's "Complete Method", and Robert Getchell's "2nd Book of Practical Studies". Arban's has a great combination of fundamental exercises such as scale studies and vocalizes, but also has entertaining solos and duets toward the back of the book. Read More
