I've been a music lover for as long as I can remember. I began playing guitar at age 13 and have continued to play for the past eleven years. I have been in numerous bands and played hundred of shows in Chapel Hill, Raleigh, and all around the state. I play acoustic and electric guitar as well as keyboard-piano. I have years of experience giving guitar lessons as well as recording music in my studio. Read More

For beginning piano students, I typically start with Faber's Piano Adventures. I also use these books as a foundation for intermediate students. After students have grasped the basics, I will talk with them to determine their interest in different musical styles and songs. I will then add in supplementary material to go alongside the Piano Adventures books to give them a broader range of musical ability. Violin lessons are a combination of the Suzuki Method and Strings Builders. Read More
Instruments: Saxophone
Yes, I will be focusing on fundamentals, skill, and fluidity but if there is anything that I prioritize above all else is art. Anyone can learn to play scales and technically difficult pieces but cultivating creativity and musicianship is the key to developing an understanding of phrasing, purpose, and musicianship. I'm not going to be just sitting around telling my student what to do and how to do it. I want my students to think for themselves and delight that the work they produce is their own. Read More

I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. In 1977, I graduated from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Performance. In 1999, I was certified to teach Music K-12 by the state of North Carolina after attending NC Central University. Performing all over the US has been one of the greater experiences of my life as a musician, and I've had the opportunity to play in North Carolina, Virginia, Texas, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Kansas, Alabama, Ohio, Florida, and Connecticut. I use a variety of different methods and I tailor my curriculum to each individual student, offering you a personalized approach that is unique to your personality and learning style. I teach repertoire from the Suzuki Violin School and Barbara Barber's Solos for Young Violinists, I also like to incorporate other styles if the student is interested, such as fiddle and bluegrass, and even pop and Disney songs. I also use etude and scale books to help build and enhance certain techniques, such as Wolfhart Etudes, Barber Barber Scales for Young Violinist, Carl Flesch Scale System, etc., depending on the level and individual needs of the student. Instruments: Voice
The most common hindrance I find while teaching is the student himself. Before I address any other technique, I work on fixing the obvious. This method frees the student to learn without hold himself back. Even if the student has experience, I always start at the basics to gauge his understanding then work from there. Read More
