I'm a patient and experienced teacher who wants to help every student enjoy playing piano! I make a point of listening to students and trying to match a method and music to their needs and goals. I love to teach keyboard skills, and to make reading music easier for students so they can become independent learners and musicians. Teaching in a traditional style, the method books primarily used are Alfred's Prep Course, and Faber. For the very young (4-5 years old), I have had great success using Music for Little Mozarts. I encourage independent sight reading with additional books of holiday songs and fun songs. Each level includes theory and/or note speller books. For the very young, I include note spelling games. I also allow students to perform their own compositions and help them notate on staff paper to understand rhythm and theory as applied in their own creations. Read More

It is important for the studen to learn at their own pace and to set realistic goals each time they practice. I can adjust the order that i teach some of the basics to fit the students interest. My musical experience began at a very young age when I used to listen to all sorts of music. When I first got to making music, I was around 19 years old, midway through college. I started composing electronic dance music and enrolled in courses to learn more while changing my college major. After graduation I had 2-3 years of electronic music experience, allowing me to get a few jobs and teach at Duke University's DMA camp, SamAsh Music Stores, Raleigh and Bach to Rock Academy, Apex. My teaching style is instruction, encouragement and assignment. I will teach a concept and then encourage the student as they attempt to master the skill. I will then assign that concept and skill as homework. After the student masters that concept I will introduce another concept that builds upon the previous one. During each quarter of the year a piece of music is assigned where those concepts are necessary to perform the piece. Read More
