For beginner students, I start with the basics and like to teach from the Hal Leonard fundamentals books, but it also depends on the type of student. Some are more visual learners whereas others might be more auditory inclined. I modify my teaching style to accommodate the student. Understandably, theory can get mundane, but I try to make learning fun and applicable so a lot of what I teach directly involves playing on the keys instead of writing things in books. Read More

We took trips to Chicago every other year to see the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and to do a workshop at Northwestern University and my students received first and second division ratings at Solo and Ensemble both at the district and state levels. I was a judge for solo and ensemble and band festivals. Music is my biggest passion and something I love sharing with my students. I first began taking music lessons at the age of nine and quickly took to piano. I began teaching while at music college, and soon found that I enjoyed imparting my love of music to others more than I enjoyed performing myself! I have been teaching private lessons at home and in students’ homes for 10 years. I taught classroom music in school in the UK for 5 years before my move to the USA. I like to allow my teaching style and repertoire to be somewhat directed by the student, while making sure that the music they are playing is a suitable difficulty and teaching them a rounded technique.
