I am an enthusiastic and talented music instructor who loves working with students and sharing my passion for music.  I graduated from the University of Mary Washington in the Fall of 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music.  I have a wide variety of musical talents, including theory, performance and composition.  My primary instrument is flute and I am comfortable teaching any age group and any skill level. I have enjoyed teaching piano, organ, and flute for over 30 years. My students have done very well in NYSSMA, Yamaha Electone organ competitions, recitals and orchestra performances. I have been performing in concerts in theaters, schools and stage since age 9. For the past 16 years I have been recording piano. organ. synthesizer and flute tracks in a recording studio. My experience in teaching is still growing. I have previously taught freelance back in 2010 assisting high school students prep for NYSSMA. I have taught toddlers as well as adults since then off and on but am looking to start to teach more consistently and regularly. I also have experience with children and young adults with special needs. My teaching includes all aspects of music; Musical theory, sight singing, as well as Music History. My teaching style allows the child to have fun while they learn their instrument, but I emphasize a strong practice regiment. Your child will understand that while learning music and an instrument can be fun, there will be some work involved if they want to become great. For beginning students, I like to start them on the Hal Leonard Essential Elements. I believe it moves at the proper pacing for young children. For intermediate students, Accent on Achievement works well because I find the music is more challenging. Also I require older students to know scales, primarily Bb, Eb, and F major being that they are the easiest to learn. It is from there that I gradually add a new scale (one every few weeks) until ultimately all 12 major scales are learned. Read More

My teaching experience dates back all the way to Middle School, when I started teaching my first saxophone student. I continued teaching in High School in the following subject areas: Physics, Geometry, Algebra (all math), and Chemistry. I started teaching swim lessons in early college too. Why does all of this matter? Well, I hope it shows that I am an experienced educator in more than just music! I believe that there are overlaps in every subject of teaching, and these experiences have enhanced my teaching of music. Read More
