Awards:

2007 Charlotte Music Society Performance Award 2008 Queens University of Charlotte Performer of the Year

Overview:
I began guitar studies under Mark Mazzatenta at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. I then transferred to Queens University of Charlotte to continue studies with Robert Teixeira, and was awarded the Queens University Performer of the Year in 2008. After earning my Bachelor of Music in Guitar Performance in 2008, I went on to study with Christopher Berg at the University of South Carolina, graduating with a Masters of Music in Guitar Performance in 2011. I have also studied with Kami Rowan, Kevin Dollar, and Patrick Lui. I have been the recipient of commendations such as the Charlotte Music Society Performance Excellence Award and Semi Finalist in the Music Academy of North Carolina's International Guitar Festival in 2010. I have recently performed with the Bechtler Ensemble as part of CPCC's Sensoria Arts Festival in Charlotte, NC. I also currently perform with guitarist Jeremy Polley in the EP Guitar Duo regionally. I began my Doctorate of Musical Arts studies in University of South Carolina in Classical Guitar Performance in 2014.
EXPERIENCE
From 2005-2006 I served on the faculty at Music Academy of North Carolina in Greensboro. After completing my Master's Degree, I joined the faculty at Central Piedmont Community College in 2011, where I have taught several classes including Applied Guitar, Instrumental Repertoire, History of Rock and Roll, Music Appreciation, and Fundamentals of Theory. In addition to my position at CPCC I also serve on the music faculty teaching applied guitar at Davidson College. I love seeing my students reach their goals (no matter how big or how small). The smile, sense of satisfaction, and confidence that I see in my students as they progress gives me a great sense of humility to be able to work with such great students week after week and many times year after year. From beginners who have never played a note in their life to advanced students who have played for years I enjoy sharing the joy of music with each of them.
METHODS USED
For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Guitar For Kids. For teenage and adult students I use Hal Leonard's Guitar Method Complete Edition. For classical guitar students I use Aaron Shearer's Learning the Classic Guitar Volume 2. After a student has a grasp over basic technique, chords, and reading I like to split the lesson between book work (note reading) and teaching students to play songs that they enjoy. For my adult students I gear lessons to their goals. Reading standard notation is not always a goal for my adult students so we may work towards developing better technique, expanding chord knowledge, and learning songs that they enjoy.
LESSON STYLE
Teaching has been my passion for over 15 years and I strive to help students achieve their goals no matter how small or large they may be. I try to create a relaxed atmosphere where students can be themselves while still holding them accountable for their practice. Whether it's learning to strum a few chords so you can play along with some of your favorite songs, or learning to perform classical, jazz, or rock in front of an audience, I strive to set short term and long term goals to help students reach their full potential.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
