Suzuki Piano: also called the mother-tongue method. The method is modeled after the way the way children learn their native language, with an emphasis on exposure to the music being learned via listening to a recording. Note reading is not neglected, though earliest pieces are learned "by ear." The Suzuki philosophy is "Every Child Can" (learn to play). Read More

Lessons are fun! My philosophy is that students should have music in their lives and benefit from the lessons they take now for years to come. Learning to play a musical instrument will help students with math skills, study habits, and develop a skill that will last for a lifetime. After 3 months students will understand the fundamentals of their string instrument or voice, know how to care for their instrument, warm up properly, be able to read and play/sing introductory passages. After 6 months the student will have learned basic music theory, how to read music, and have advanced through playing/singing multiple songs. Read More

My teaching goal is to encourage my students to be lifelong patrons of the arts. I understand that every student may not be interested in a career in music. I encourage students to set goals and work toward them. These goals may include a scholarship audition, playing a piece in front of a family member, or booking their first professional "gig." My main goal is to provide inspiration and inspire a student ( no matter what the starting place) to pick a 'first goal." This "first goal" allow the student to set a goal and create a path for success under the supervision of a trained professional. Read More

As I mentioned before, my teaching style can best be described as easygoing, but precise and adapted to each students needs. I focus on the person trying to learn as much as on the learning itself. Yet, Im not demanding or harsh in my delivery or expectations. Rather than a standard, vanilla approach, I try learn my students personality, learning style, and sense of humor pretty quickly and work to adapt the facts and knowledge of music to each student as an individual human, not an appointment. I have been a musician since I can remember. I come from a musical family all multi instrumentalists. I received my BA Music from San Diego State University and studied as a piano major and was a member of the SDSU Symphony Orchestra playing violin. While at Grossmont High School, I played clarinet and mallets in marching band and was in the symphonic band and orchestra; I sang alto in the award winning choir. Read More

My teaching experience is varied, as I started as a music theory teacher in a piano studio, from 1995 to 2001. I taught theory to small groups of students, ages 3 to adult. I began teaching private clarinet lessons in earnest in 2005, working out of a music store in La Mesa; I taught there until 2011. During this time, I also taught band for a small private company in San Diego from 2006-2007. I took a break from music for a while, after a repetitive strain injury, and began my library career.
