I employ a very eclectic, rotating repetoire. For beginning violin students, I use the Suzuki method of ear-training, however I am not married to that curriculum. I prefer to use beginning Suzuki materials in tandem with standard American folk and pop music, in accordance to the student's interests. I began playing violin, taking private lessons, at the age of four years and trained under the Suzuki method. At age five, I began participating in the National Federation of Music Clubs and received Superior ratings for thirteen consecutive years; in the year 2008, I received the Presidents Festival Cup under the National Federation of Music. I also began performing with the Central Kentucky Youth Orchestra (CKYO) at age seven and participated in three European tours with CKYO, serving as their concert master for the Spain and Portugal tour in 2008. I first picked up the guitar at the age of 10 and took lessons from instructors for the first few years. In High School I became much more passionate about music, and began self teaching myself how to play songs and solo. By my Sophomore year I began playing with bands, and that snowballed throughout high school. I self taught myself much of the foundation of music theory, and a few years later studied under a Los Angeles based teacher who helped me connect all the dots and really take my playing to another level. I am proud to say that I am trained in both Traditional and Suzuki methods, which is an advantage when working with a wide range of pupils. I often alternate between these methods, based on what the student preference. I remind them it's not about learning the song and mastering it right away, but rather taking time to be comfortable with what they are doing.
