I began playing the clarinet in 5th grade and immediately fell in love with the instrument. After playing throughout middle and high school, I went on to earn my Bachelors of Music degree in clarinet performance from Temple University, followed by a Master of Music in clarinet performance and a Master of Arts in musicology from the University of California, Santa Barbara. I had the pleasure and good fortune to study with noted clarinetists and instructors Anthony Gigliotti, Ronald Reuben, and Rosario Mazzeo, from whom I learned not only the intricacies and complexities of my instrument, but also how to be an effective and compassionate teacher. Vocal students are encouraged to pick songs from whatever genre sparks their interest.  With violin and viola I use the suzuki method of training and follow the books and lessons, and I use other books to supplement scales/technique.  If a student already has musical literature I am very open to using that to build a specific curriculum for that student. I began my teaching career in Texas.  I have worked as a private guitar instructor at various music schools in Texas and in Southern California for the past twelve years.  I also enjoy teaching guitar, ukulele, and bass guitar to students in my home studio. For beginning piano students, I like to use the Piano Adventure book series. They do a very good job at laying out the basics of piano technique in a fun and colorful way for young children. As the students progress through the series I will encourage them to begin learning pieces on their own and eventually preparing them for recital performances.
