I have taught on and off for the last 7 years. Recently I have decided to change careers and focus music and teaching full time. During my time as an undergrad student I taught percussion and basic piano lessons in the local area. Since leaving school in 2014 I have continued my music education and focused on teaching young children both group and individual. My general approach to teaching is to mold my lesson plan around the students needs and wants, and it's extremely important that our lessons are fun for the student! This is especially true for children; if playing an instrument becomes "work"/"homework" they will probably lose interest pretty quickly. It's important to try to avoid that mindset, and keep it fun so that the student WANTS to pick up their instrument and play everyday. Read More

I use various methods and books depending on the style, age, ability etc. I always keep my eye out for new books and open to suggestions. A few examples. With classical guitar students who are over 10 yo I prefer to use Christopher Parkening Guitar Method and Frederick Noad "Solo Guitar Playing" The latter suits more mature (both mentally and physically) students. With younger guitar students , 6-9 yo, I usually start by using basic guitar methods such as Hal Leonard Essential elements or "Everybody's Guitar Method" and my own easy arrangements of popular songs before shifting to Parkening.
