My teaching style ranges based on the needs of each student, but I consistently make sure to work towards challenging, but achievable goals with a clear, step by step, and enjoyable path towards them. I do this because I've seen far too many other instructors either overwhelm a student, or bore them to death. Both of which are the two most common reasons for why someone gives up an instrument. My experience as a professional musician began as a teenager doing session work for bands all around Florida. In recent years I have also founded my own record label, toured with my own projects, and also play with internationally known touring acts. I've found that if you are stoked on what you do, and have a commitment to working hard on your craft, anything is truly possible. My students are encouraged to love what they love, and be stoked on expanding their musical skill set. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Alfred's Basic Piano Library or Piano Adventures Faber method. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. This could include jazz, classical or pop music. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More

For beginning students I prefer to use either Alfred's, Mel Bay, or Hal Leonard method books. I generally stay away from method books that use guitar tablature because I find that student will prefer to read the tablature instead of standard musical notation. Tablature is a good way to easily show how guitar parts are played, but is not useful when teaching standard notation, music theory, harmony, etc. In addition to using a method book, I will also teach the student popular songs, which is a great way to start teaching chords and song structure in addition to keeping the lesson fun and the student engaged. During the financial crisis in 2008/2009 I lost a lot of students. I decided to try something else. I went back to school and earned a second Bachelor's degree in Information Technology. I even ended up getting a job as a software engineer at IBM, but I soon realized that it is not the right thing for me. I missed playing the guitar and interacting with aspiring guitar players. So, I left that field for good and have put my full attention to teaching music since then. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing a student progress, or better yet, develop a love for music. When my students succeed, I feel as though I have. I feel as though every student should progress at their own pace and music especially should not be something that stresses the student out (especially when it is art). I have had many teachers that were very old-fashioned and harsh in their ways and this can give the student a distaste for music. Read More
