I also worked as a School Aged Child Care Leader at Sandburg Elementary School from 2015 to 2018, further honing my skills in working with children ages 5 to 11. In 2019, I attended Marrowstone Music Festival as a Fellow. This gave me the opportunity to mentor high school and undergraduate flutists individually and during sectionals and to coach a student wind quintet. During my final year at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, I also taught a Public Speaking course for undergraduate students. Read More

I invest time in understanding their musical preferences, interests, and motivations. This understanding enables me to craft customized lesson plans that incorporate repertoire, techniques, and activities that align with their musical tastes. By ensuring the lessons are relevant and engaging, I inspire my students to maintain their motivation and enthusiasm for their musical progress. Above all, my love for teaching permeates every interaction with my students. I am committed to establishing a positive and nurturing atmosphere where students feel inspired, supported, and valued. I usually start out by doing the methods book but I also stress the importance of playing with others in a group or duet setting. I love getting to play the teacher part with my students so it's more of a collaboration than a solo job. My goal is to have my students play duets with each other if that can be accommodated. Keeping it fun really helps the learning process and motivation to keep going and taking private lessons. Read More

I love watching my students develop the skills and habits they need to grow as musicians. Each student is unique and as such I cater my approach to help them progress at their own pace. I do this by consulting with my students and coming up with individualized practice routines and long-term goals. I feel that in this process it is very important to both commend students on their achievements and to offer constructive criticism in a way that is compassionate and helpful. Read More

Of course, every student is different, and an integral part of my philosophy involves getting to know each student so that I may learn their creative preferences, strengths, and weaknessness. I do not shy away from books, I do indeed enjoy working out of the Hal Leonard collection because I appreciate the step by step structure. This may apply less to guitar, however, if the student's primary ambitions are to learn songs by Green Day or The Beatles, etc. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More
