I'm a passionate musician and teacher and would love to be your instructor! My love and experience is primarily in guitar, voice, and piano. I graduated from Gordon college in 2008 with a degree in music education and taught K-8 grade for several years, which included directing children's choirs, teaching private lessons, and teaching general music to many ages. For beginning students who are children (3-7 years old), I typically start with the nice songs, which involve dance, animal sounds, musical games, simple percussion instruments, clapping, funny- playful movements. With the older children (8-14) we start learning staff, keys, music notes, basic scales, more complex songs, but still keep the playfulness. I studied hard with him for over 10 years when I started accompanying the Oakcrest High School choir under the direction of Charles Bass. For piano- I teach out of several method books- Faber, Bastein, John Thompson and Alfred's. I also implement Dozen a Day for piano technique and Hanon and scales. I use Czerny for the intermediate student. For voice- I work to build a solid understanding of breath, posture, vowel sounds and shapes, singing legato, etc. I believe a classical technique in both instruments is the best foundation for growth into any style. My method is very personalized to the student. For piano, I love using the Faber Piano Adventure series for both little ones through adult. They do an excellent job formatting their age-appropriate materials to students and get them playing and learning to read music early on in the learning. For voice, I devise my own warm up exercises that tailor to the needs of the student. Breath, diction, resonance, body posture, and tension are among some of the technical priorities I have when teaching voice. Read More
