My teaching style is best referred to as a facilitator. Essentially, I promote self-learning, helping students develop critical thinking skills and retain knowledge that leads to self-actualization. I prefer to guide students by letting them think for themselves, pointing out when mistakes are made but also encouraging them to learn and grow from them. I began teaching almost 15 years ago, starting with private lessons, and eventually branching out to singing and handbell choirs, inner-city after school programs, outreach programs for the homeless, and adult continuing learning in Boston, MA. To sing freely one must feel safe and at liberty to try things, to make sounds which in other places are frowned upon. I aim to provide a place where students can try things and receive positive reinforcement for what works, rather than judgement about what is wrong. While still in college, I was a music tutor at North Star in Hadley For two years. I worked one-on-one with students in middle school on both voice and guitar. During my time there, I taught kids anything from different chords on the guitar, to breath support and passion in one's singing, to vocal improvisation and stage confidence. So, I have had teaching experience with students from 12 to 55 years old. I also had many private vocal students, who are successfully continuing to pursue their musical careers/education. After my graduation I moved to London and worked as a music teacher with K-5 grade students. I gained a lot of knowledge about little kids and and the best ways of teaching them.
