I strongly believe that everyone is very different. Learning styles and musical goals are very much a part of this. Some find reading from a book helps them, so for most students I begin by recommending "A Modern Method For Guitar" from the Berklee Press, however for others a book is not as helpful as listening to some music and watching someone play. I like to introduce as much theory as is desired from the student because theory is a very important part of the musical process, but if the student prefers to get playing first and understand the “why” later then we can work something out in that regard. Depending on musical interest, we can work with different genre's and pieces to promote specific techniques and practice routines. Read More

My curriculum is entirely driven by the students needs. I don't believe that one blanket method works for all individuals. Therefore, I spend the early lessons getting to know the student and designing the layout for our lessons moving forward. There are definitely certain books that I have used to assist with teaching. These books are dependant on the level of the student. Some of these books are Ted Green's "Chord Chemistry", "Rythms Complete" by Bugs Bower, and the Hal Leonard guitar method books. Read More

My experience as a music educator started in high school when my band director sent a few middle school bass and guitar students my way, at which point I discovered a great love for teaching. Since then I have taught several electric and upright bass students throughout my time as a Berklee student, as well as rhythm section master classes. I'm experienced in teaching students of all ability levels in subjects such as technique, rhythm/ear training, sight reading, music theory, and composition. Read More

I have been teaching guitar and bass for the past 10 years, and have had the pleasure of watching some of my students move on to become actively performing, professional musicians. I bounced between many instructors as I was learning to play, and studied under a handful of music professors in college. Doing so helped me see the instructor who I wanted to become, and develop a teaching program that caters to the needs of each individual student. Read More

My lessons are organized around a few core elements: fundamentals, technique, note-reading, and repertoire. For all students, grasping the fundamentals of pitch and rhythm is essential, so exercises that continually reinforce these fundamental skills are a typical first order of business for each weekly lesson. Simultaneously, I guide the student through proper posture, form, breathing, and mental preparation. For children, and any adolescents or adults who are truly serious about music, I encourage the development of sight-reading skills for musical literacy. Read More

Each student learns at their own pace. Though I do have a consistent method for teaching, I first like to see what a student's level of playing and understanding of music is before we move forward so I can see where the student needs improvement. Although we will work on fundamentals, I work with students so that my lessons can be fun, educational, inspiring, and suited for each student's needs. Read More
