Overview:

I'm an exuberant and competent professional musician and instructor who loves working with students and sharing the love and discipline of my instruments. I hold vocal performance degrees from Pacific Lutheran University and Boston University. Most recently I was a 2022 Laffont District winner and named the 2022 Ted Stevens Young Alaskan Artist recital winner. I enjoy singing roles such as Fiordiligi from Così fan tutte, and Ma Zegner from Missy Mazzoli's Proving Up, both which I sang with Boston University Opera Institute. Another favorite role is Queen of the Night from Mozart's The Magic Flute! Originally from a rural fishing community in Alaska, I spend my free time hiking and composing art songs where I create sound worlds that imitate Alaska's expensive natural landscapes.

EXPERIENCE

I began teaching in highschool and continued to teach during my gap and college years where I maintained a thriving studio of over twenty private students while also a full time student. With over 3,000 documented hours of voice and piano lessons, my teaching is informed by evidence based research, bel canto, and garcia methodology. Having taken lessons with over dozens of the most prestigious voice teachers and coaches in North America, I bring new ideas and methods to every lesson. I always tailor each lesson to a specific student's personality, needs, and goals. Beyond this, I try to create dialogue that encourages student's to become so adept that they can actually teach themselves. While I've taught all ages, I currently am only accepting highschool and online students for online instruction. I've found for these age groups that an online format is incredibly accessible and more than comprible to in-person lessons.

METHODS USED

For beginning piano students I use a combination of Piano Adventures curriculum and Suzuki piano method. I like using Piano Adventures because it is a seamless and easy way to learn how to sightread. Suzuki is used to enhance performance skills and learn traditional repertoire. I supplement with other sheet music on the side and teach scales and technical work additionally. For beginning voice students the majority of initial lessons are spent on technique and students are encouraged to apply it in whatever repertoire they enjoy with occasional assigned peices.

LESSON STYLE

I would say words like ENERGETIC, DILIGENT, INTELLECTUAL and SUPPORTIVE are words that would describe my teaching style. Nothing is more rewarding to me than seeing one of my students develop a practice and passion for music! I encourage student's by setting realistic goals at each stage. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. This is one of my favorite parts of the job, coming alongside a student's story and helping them work with in it to create their own success!

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
