I started teaching private music lessons 10 years ago before I attended college. Throughout college and after, I progressed and improved greatly as a musician, teacher and person. I like teaching people of all ages and backgrounds and feel this mindset in paramount in me improving as an educator and overall communicator. A fourth reason is because I am completely flexible with my lessons, teaching exactly what the student (or parent) wants (them) to learn, anything from the standard traditional approach (i.e reading music) to the rock approach just teaching them how to play their favorite songs, which I figure out by ear on the spot from the recording which the student asks me to listen to. I have taught guitar since my time at Berklee, when teaching was a side-career that I wanted to explore. My students were accepted into TCNJ, Wiliam Paterson, and Berklee. I felt that teaching was a viable path and something I was passionate about. I decided to pursue teaching in higher education, completing my Masters and enrolling in a PhD program with the intention to teach in academia.
