My number One thing is that it has to be fun learning otherwise the students get bored easily and disinterested so I always incorporate learning real music while you’re learning theory and carefully assessing the students strong points and trouble spots all the while giving them goals and consistent practice schedule And the critical importance of using a Metronome and having excellent timing. I want more than anything for it to be an enjoyable experience as well as a growth process for them and you continually push themselves to greater limits and I always stress the importance of practicing a little bit every day for muscle memory As supposed to spread out long practice sessions and I always give them encouraging words to help propel them to new heights, I also encourage them to bring any songs they would like to learn so that they can be playing with other fellow musicians and singers as quickly as possible Read More

For beginners, I like to focus on proper position and proper technique. This is done by making sure students sit properly and we will begin strengthening right hand and left hand via arpeggios and simple etudes Aimed to focus on these areas . For example , Mauro Giulianis 120 etudes for right hand and other methods like carcassi and we will advance as time comes. For flamenco , we start with basic techniques of flamenco , rasgueado, alzapua and arpeggios . Read More

I continued to teach music at that same sleep away camp for years -- eventually becoming the Head of the Music Department ( Rock Shop) there - coaching bands, leading improv classes, and developing the program. I later enjoyed several years teaching as an adjunct professor in the music department at my alma mater. I have always had a steady practice of private students ranging in ages and experience. Whatever the material be, I focus on finding the student's true musical voice, allowing them to take ownership over their instrument, allowing any intimidation to fade, and therefore, finding the natural joy in playing music. My teaching style combines different elements. I try to keep it fresh and work on music that the student enjoys. I will work on songs but also larger concepts including ear training, improvisation, reading, and chord knowledge/ theory. I don't try to force concepts on people, but introduce them if they are open/amenable to it. I believe that everyone coming to the guitar has different goals and are doing it for different reasons and so it seems ridiculous to have only one approach. Read More

I began teaching Private Lessons when I was 17 to elementry school age students and fell in love with it immediatley, I love sharing with others and figuring out how to make the impossible possible. Music can seem mysterious or daunting at first, but my job is to break it down in a methodical way to help my students digest a song/topic and reveal the way a "mystery" functions. Since highschool I've always had a handful of students that I've worked with weekly in my private studio. Read More
