I try to custom my teaching style to the student that I am with so that the student can learn in the best way possible. I will always reinforce my lessons with method books such as William Leavitt's modern methods for guitar and reading studies, while also transcribing songs for students and creating lesson plans and diagrams for them. My main focus is that the student learns the music that they want to learn enabling them to have a real interest and passion in what they are learning. Read More

I start out with fundamental theory, scales, and chords, along with easy songs and riffs. I teach student differently depending on their skill and ability level. I utilize textbooks and DVDs to accompany the lessons. My approach is straight forward, which enables the students to learn quickly.I think the visual aspect of the guitar is very important, so I focus a lot on theory applied directly to the guitar. I have been steadily teaching private lessons since I was at Berklee, nearly 10 years ago. I almost always have taught lessons at my own studio where students come to me because that always seems to be the most conducive environment for learning and getting inspired. I've taught complete beginners at the toddler age, and even retired people in their 70s. I enjoy teaching because each student has different needs, different interests, and most importantly digest and internalize new information differently. Read More

My main areas of expertise are in voice, songwriting and composition, improvisation, contemporary piano and synthesizer performance, recording your own music, and ear training and theory. I love to teach because I have to teach. My philosophy is if you believe you are born with a special gift, you are obligated to give and teach the ways of this gift to people who strive to understand it. In other words, music is my passion and the one thing I've been able to do my entire life, and creating it gives me tremendous joy. Read More

By far the greatest feeling as a teacher is that moment when the "lightbulb" turns on for the student and the idea clicks. It's an amazing feeling and to see growth happening is such a privelege. I remember the excitement of learning a new song when someone would show me, or when I'd get a challenging part. Honestly, there's not a feeling on earth as gratifying for me as in the moment, knowing that I used to not be able to do this, and now I can do it. Read More

I believe the student is there to find a passion. It is so important to find love for the art, and this is what I try to provide. A lead-by-example approach is the core of what I do. I "draw" the student toward their own voice. It is imperative to help them find their own "style." The greatest musicians are true originals; and so I do not encourage my students to follow in my footsteps, but to blaze their own trails. Read More
