More than a decade ago I began giving music lessons in both private and group formats. It was an unexpected "diversion," but a very natural fit! It brings me great joy to see a student enjoying the guitar, advancing on the instrument, and entering into that "fellowship of guitarists," which means everything from jamming with their friends, to being able to learn any song they want, to understanding a meme about the G string always going out of tune. I'm a dedicated teacher who wants to give students the tools to succeed in all aspects of music. I don't just train players to hit the right notes, I teach theory, ear training skills, and everything else. Students with these skills are more capable of succeeding in playing music, and have a more versatile set of abilities that allows them to do more than recite what's on the page. I specialize in Classical Guitar, but I am willing and able to teach more popular styles as well. Read More

I have been teaching music for 45 years and by the time I was 9 I already mastered 3 instruments my last teacher could not teach me any longer because I knew more than him as he suggested to find another teacher. I love to teach music I even like to manage bands. When I teach you learn and when you learn that is how I know I did a good job. I also teach students how to write their own music. Read More

For beginner students I start with chord shapes. We'll learn what notes are in the chord, where to find the root note of the chord everywhere on the fret board and how to play that chord in multiple postions. Then we work on switching chords in basic progressions and later we move onto scales. For my intermediate students its more about technique and theory. We'll focus heavily on scales and modes and their relationship to each other. Read More

I've been teaching on and off over the past 10+ years. My first experience teaching in a professional setting was at the Royal Academy of Music in Shrewsbury Massachusetts while taking some time off from college. There I taught up to 30 students in any given week. It's also where I branched out and began teaching beginner to intermediate bass guitar, piano, and drums. Since returning to New York I have taught a number of private students throughout the Hudson Valley. Read More

My approach depends completely upon the genre and goals of my students and their skill level. For beginners, I must always take a lesson to explain exactly what each part of the instrument is and how it works. For rock and pop students, the very first thing I will teach them are open chords and the pentatonic scale, and maybe even a simple song depending upon the student. For classical, I like to start out with simple sight reading exercises and move on to material that applies the principles I teach. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I start with the book "Learn to play piano" for piano students and for guitar "Learn to play guitar." It is a basic book with specific essential elements for reading and understanding music. As the student progresses I use to introduce songs for their repertoire applying what they leaned in the book. For Voice lessons is more practice, which includes exercises for breathing, diction, tune, Corporal expressions among others. Read More
