With 15 years of performance experience, I have sang with the Richmond Symphony Chorus, the Tulsa Chorale led by Dr. Tim Sharp, the TU Cappella Chamber Singers and TU Chorale led by Dr. Kim Childs, and the Chancel Choir of the First Presbyterian Church of Tulsa led by Ron Pearson. Every student is unique and special in their own way, that's why I tailor each lesson for that specific student and I meet them exactly where they are. My method of working with the voice is to first get a sense of what the student's goals are. These include both vocal goals and career/performance goals. We will then work together to form a plan to achieve them. This will include exercises tailored directly to the student's vocal needs and desires and guiding the student to repertoire that will both be fun for them to sing and will teach them more about the concepts we are working on. I feel that while it is important that students make progress, every student must move at his or her own pace. I like to set goals for students in terms of technical growth and potential repertoire, and believe in acknowledging the improvements a student makes, whether over time or in the moment. Though it is wonderful to see a student gradually understand a concept, there is nothing more exciting for a teacher than seeing a student have an "Aha!" moment. Read More
