I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. I prefer one on one lesson time. Parents are welcome to stay and watch if they'd like. I don't have a particular style. Intermediate For anyone looking to further develop their skills as a clarinetist, we will focus on intermediate clarinet etudes, learning major and minor scales, solidifying tone and intonation, and learning some music theory concepts. Flute: Beginner For the student who wants to begin learning flute, we will practice correct fingerings and hand position, breathing techniques, air support, reading beginning level music, and the fundamentals of music theory. There are many books I use, including Ted Reed's syncopation for all levels of students, but I focus most of my time with a student to finding out what inspires them to want to learn the drums, and go from there. My primary teaching philosophy is one of showing by example. Book learning is excellent and necessary and I use an assortment of standard materials and literature to assign lessons. I am especially fond of the teaching method of Laurie Frink and John McNeil and their joint manual "Flexus" and the basic Carmine Caruso embouchure studies literature. I also create my own exercises for the the students based on their individual and immediate needs. Read More
