Bachelor's in Jazz Drum Set Performance and Studio Music, Frost School of Music at the University of Miami

Awards:

University of Miami scholarship 2010

Overview:
I started playing drums at age 9. I joined the youth community jazz band right away in New Jersey. While attending High School in New Jersey, I joined the Manhattan School of Music pre-college program for jazz drums, classical percussion, and music theory. I attend the Peabody Conservatory of Music for Jazz Studies for a year. I then transferred to the Frist school of Music at the University of Miami, where I received my undergraduate degree in studio music and jazz drumset performance. After graduating and performing around Miami with fellow alumnus, I started teaching at the School of Rock. I taught private lessons and lead the beginner Rock band.
EXPERIENCE
It was so hard for me to leave my students in Miami. We had such a great bond filled with motivation, discipline, and passion. Pushing people to achieve what they once thought was impossible is a blessing. To teach another human the gift of physically producing music is a gift. I am ver patient but firm. I like to learn while having fun most of all. I love to play and incorporate live musical interactions with my students. I am a freelance musician, living in New York City. I’ve done it all, from off broadway plays, local gigs, etc...
METHODS USED
I like to keep a weekly log in a notebook the student takes home or keeps. I have many books ranging from beginner to advance, for drums, percussion, and piano. Also beginner bass and guitar books. Technique, book work, and song work is how I prefer to split my lesson time. Breaking habits before they become bad ones! Books: The Real Book, Syncopation, Stick Control, etc...I have been teaching at The School of Rock for the past 5 years. All ages. Very flexible with my methods. If someone wants to be challenged, I’m more than happy to challenge the student. If we just want to have fun, that’s fine too.
LESSON STYLE
I teach in all styles. I believe technology is a big part of today's music industry and needs to be taught.  Every student has a different intention for studying an instrument. It's important to understand his or hers intention. My best teacher was the hardest on me and gave me the best results. I’m very fun, but also know when to push people to do things they never thought they would be able to do. I usually like to feel out the student agenda, and go from there. Learning songs to play along to, write songs, work on technique.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
