Overview:

I am a music instructor, and professional guitarist/perfomer/songwriter based out of New Jersey. I have been teaching professionally since 2006. My goal is to teach to the students needs, and allow them to get whatever they hope to get out of music, be it competence on an instrument, performing, improvisation, reading music, understanding theory...whatever their journey entails. I also put together performance opportunities for my students twice a year. Whatever journey the student winds up on, I am motivated to steer that ship.

EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching guitar as a primary occupation since 2006. I have been a professional musician (performer and songwriter) since 2001. I have taught at music studios in NJ (Dan's Music Studio, The Music Center in Chatham, Howell Music) and now teach privately in-home, at my studio, and online. I currently have a roster of over 40 students, and am extremely passionate about teaching music from beginners to advanced students, from kids to adults. It is extremely rewarding to see students evolve and fall in love with music.

METHODS USED

I believe in adhering to the needs of the student, be it ear training, sight reading, or visual learning. Music is a complex and beautiful journey. I believe in providing students with all of the skills they need to acheive their goals. Some people want to play jazz, some people want to perform, and some people just want to strum songs they can sing along too...it is all music, and my job is to help people express that. There are certain lesson books I suggest to get people started from the very beginning as well.

LESSON STYLE

This varies depending on the student. I will typically design my lessons around the student's own individualized needs. I believe that there are many avenues that students can go down on the musical adventure. In the very beginning, there are basic, fundamental things that need to be learned, and repeated, but after that has been accomplished, it can go in many directions. I feel that if a student can make a personal connection with music that they love, and learn how to express that through their instrument of chouce, then their learning is both accelerated and enhanced.
