My main areas of expertise are in voice, songwriting and composition, improvisation, contemporary piano and synthesizer performance, recording your own music, and ear training and theory. I love to teach because I have to teach. My philosophy is if you believe you are born with a special gift, you are obligated to give and teach the ways of this gift to people who strive to understand it. In other words, music is my passion and the one thing I've been able to do my entire life, and creating it gives me tremendous joy. Read More

I teach out of instructional books, notably books by Hal Leonard, Mel Bay, and Alfred. Sometimes, I use sheet music print outs, or draft up my own exercises. I go back in forth in a non-conventional manner, adapting accordingly to the student's needs. I like to incorporate exercises and warm ups to improve and enchance technique. I also teach songs that the student would like to learn. I'm very patient and rarely rigid in my approach, although I do stick to a general routine that allows a focused approach to learning. I have been teaching students since my Sophomore year of high school. I began as a volunteer at Songcatchers in New Rochelle, where I taught students of varied ages and levels of experience. When I began college I took on students my own age, both beginners and advanced. One of my favorite parts of teaching is seeing a student become comfortable enough with the guitar to be able to express themselves. Read More

I began teaching practically as soon as I could play, starting when I was 13 years old. Since then, I have taught students on bass guitar, electric guitar, jazz, classical, and a variety of other forms of music. Classical is my area of expertise, which I performed throughout my undergraduate career. However, I have participated in performing bands in genres from rock to folk to reggae, and I am comfortable with almost any style of music. Read More

Phase 2: Simple Riffs and Tablature This is where we get into "lead" guitar. Simply put, this is the "one note at a time, faster" section. We'll start here by learning some catchy riffs within the students ability and interest. Speed will certainly develop in this phase and the student will be a more well rounded player. This is also where I will introduce reading tablature (tabs). Tabs are the guitar equivalent of sheet music and allow a guitar players to learn new songs quickly for years to come. Read More

I'm a positive and encouraging teacher. When I've worked with children and with special needs high school students, I have always tried to be supportive and positive rather than negative as my way of teaching lessons or guiding them. When it comes to teaching voice and guitar, I'm the same way. I want to bring out the best possible singer or guitarist in my student, and so my approach is a totally supportive one, and I bring a lot of enthusiasm to my lessons. Read More

I've had 10 years of teaching experience with developing my own approach to custom lessons for different needs and tastes in music. I began teaching in 2004 and never looked back.I have also coached ROCK BANDS and taught rock-band clinics in the past 6 years.I've acquired so much experience from teaching different styles. I believe everyone is different and it takes a certain approach to learning music. I'm very passionate with teaching music and music theory, and I love explaining what goes behind students' favorite songs such as chord progressions, scales, and technique. "Practice makes perfect"- I can't stress enough how important it is for a student to practice and do their homework and work on their developments. Read More
