My style is largely theory and hard technique based. I know that every student is very different and will have a different optimal technique. Whether that means I need to teach a rock student fingerstyle or hybrid picking to master a song with fast arpeggiations, or maybe figure out that someone with small hands must move their left thumb down a little bit to hit a cross-neck chord in a classical song, for instance, I personally believe that everyone is going to play a little differently to achieve the same results. Everyone has their own unique voice, and we will find yours together! I have training in several technique-driven styles, including classical and broadway. However, I like to mix and match. I'm not interested in teaching one certain way- I listen on the fly, and make judgment calls according whatever makes YOU sound best. I teach out of instructional books, notably books by Hal Leonard, Mel Bay, and Alfred. Sometimes, I use sheet music print outs, or draft up my own exercises.  I go back in forth in a non-conventional manner, adapting accordingly to the student's needs.  I like to incorporate exercises and warm ups to improve and enchance technique.  I also teach songs that the student would like to learn.  I'm very patient and rarely rigid in my approach, although I do stick to a general routine that allows a focused approach to learning. I have a variety of books I use for beginning students, depending on age and level, including the Alfred guitar book for kids. Regardless of level, I always help students learn some music they are already interested in, as that is a key path to enjoying both the pure joy of music itself and the delight of learning something you didn't know you could do. I focus on making sure student is comfortable and not lost at any point . Realistic expectations are important and we will assess these case by case. Pedagogy is extremely important to me as the future of many players is in the hands of a good teacher or a bad one. A bad teacher will harm a student and a good teacher will make sure no bad habits are developed .
