Everyone is different. Some students learn faster by using their ears and some by reading. Both of these skills are clearly important but one will always be weaker. This is where knowing your student and what they're trying to achieve is important. Some students want to learn a simple drumbeat, some want to learn a specific song. I have two goals in my lessons. One: What does the student want to learn? Read More

When teaching children, I typically start out with Suzuki cello repertoire. I am also very serious about teaching physical concepts so that the student is able to express themselves through the instrument I believe that there are certain technical principles that must be communicated and I do my absolute best to make sure that the student understands them. As students become more advanced I then introduce repertoire that suits them and that I believe they will enjoy. Read More

I’ve also tried my hand at Music Production and songwriting, and found that these ventures are gratifying ways to expand and grow as a musician. They’ve given me insight that I would have never received otherwise. Music is a great way to build many abilities that students will benefit from long after they’ve stopped studying and I hope to share my knowledge and experience with as many people as possible. Guitar has a bit of a steep learning curve at first, so I work on the basics of forming a good sound and producing clean notes and chords. Once that's established, I try to inspire students by showing just how much music can be made with as little as three chords. I'll help students learn their favorite songs and use those as an avenue for learning more technique. The best way to learn is by doing something interesting, so I use drills to help reinforce the songs students actually want to learn how to play. Read More

I'm fairly flexible, laid back in my teaching style, and always passionate about helping those who need it. At the same time, I also encourage discipline and consistency in practicing and making improvements. I always try to keep each student learning at least one new thing for each lesson, while allowing him or her to make steady and consistent progress without getting stuck in a rut. I always encourage steady and consistent practice throughout the week to further individual progress and get closer to desired results. Read More

My teaching style is very "go with the flow." Each day is a new opportunity to learn a little more about music and your chosen instrument. Each lesson is a time where we can delve deeply into one piece of music, or jump around to several different topics. Of course, there is always room for structure and I make sure that we stay on track! There are so many different aspects of each instrument to cover, but there no need to get bogged down with complicated acronyms and over complex methodology. Read More
