I seek to equip students with the performance, composition and theoretical skills that will see them excel no matter which path they take in music. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Faber collection (Piano basic adventures) or Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More

As mentioned previously, my Philosophy is this: think like a learner so that learners are able to learn from someone who thinks like them. I like to start my lessons from the very beginning which is tuning the instrument, so that the instrument sounds good. To me music is about 10% technicality and 90% feeling. Because you can play through an entire piece without any emotion and it won't be enjoyable because it doesn't feel good. Read More

My first experiences with teaching music were at the same time that I began to learn to play my main instrument, the guitar. This goes back to my childhood, because at that moment my teacher realized the facilities that I had not only to learn quickly but also to help my classmates who for different circumstances were not so much facilitated. From there I was always interested in learning and, whenever I could, teach also the satisfaction of being able to transmit knowledge of art as beautiful as music is absolutely comforting. Read More

For children and other beginners, I would start our lessons by encoding the basic function of music theory application of a drum pad. This will allow stick control and muscle memory to begin developing. As the beginner becomes more of a novice, I will introduce simple and repetitive songs and go over them as whole pieces. Those who are experienced in percussion, I will have them show me all of the rudiments they know, any complete pieces they have memorized, and have 5 minutes of improvisation. Read More
