I started sharing my musical knowledge at the age of 14, when I was in Venezuela. I was a part of the biggest and most successful music education entity in the world. Its name is "El Sistema" and it is a nonprofit organization funded by the Venezuelan government. It has more than 300,000 students and it keeps on growing up despite the crisis in Venezuela. I encourage all my students to learn the basic rudiments of music including music theory, sight-reading and playing ‘by ear’. I recommend Mel Bay’s “Children’s Guitar Method” and Hal Leonard’s “Guitar Method Book 1” for school age children. However, many of my students have decided to concentrate on learning basic theory involving chords and scales to develop ability to play ‘by ear’.
