I typically start each student off on a series of lesson books to help structure their learning in an academic way. However, I highly encourage bringing in classical pieces and students picking pieces of their own and bringing them to me to go over and learn. I’ve found that this keeps the students highly motivated and passionate about their lessons and practice. For beginners, the books are highly recommended, but for more advanced students who have finished the books, we begin classical technique exercises meant to help with the increasing level of difficulty of their songs. I first focus on the guitar level the student is at. From then on I can make a customized lesson for each student covering basic concepts such as tablature reading, understanding of the fret board, open cords, power chords, right and left hand positioning, picking techniques, and the minor pentatonic scale. I teach mostly blues, rock and heavy metal but I can teach other genres as well if you are into acoustic more calm guitar playing I love that as well. Read More

For beginners I usually start with a simple melody or riff. I love teaching Painting Black by The Rolling Stones because it is simple to play. Not only that, but it's a song that's easy to identify for most people's ear. I usually take my time allowing the student to learn. One or a few hours are enough to start learning the song. Once I leave, the student's homework is practice as often as possible in order to get some fluency on the instrument. Read More
