To me, the most important part of music is listening. For my beginners, what chord is happening is this song? How do I play that chord? How do I remember all the chords to this song? I will encourage my more advanced students to listen to the masters, as well as their own playing. What is the master player doing in this recording? How can the student apply that same concept in their own playing? Read More

Expression at the Speed of Thought Since beginning his teaching career in 1974 David has taught thousands of people how to play guitar! Some aspiring only to play at home for fun and others to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. David Fisher has also taught advanced guitar and music theory to several professional musicians who already play other instruments fluently including Oscar nominee Scott Rogness, who co-wrote and performed the songs featured in the movie That Thing You Do. I have been teaching since around 2011, after only have been playing guitar for 2 years. I learned very quickly , primarily playing metal and jazz. I played trumpet in band when I was a child, so this helped me learn to sight-read music on guitar. This allowed me to play in the university bands at both schools I attended, mainly playing jazz music. Teaching has spawned a fiery passion that I want to explore and encourage, eventually making it to the University level teaching classes and private lessons. Read More

Typically, I begin with regimented learning. For guitar students, I use Hal Leonards Guitar Method 1. For voice students, I teach basic breathing exercises and fun, sustainable and memorable warm-ups. From there, I begin to prep them for their first solo performances. I offer studio-wide performance opportunities for new and experienced students to show off their skills! As they progress, I teach to their interests and needs. Some students may be in high school prepping for Solo and Ensemble, or All-State Chorus auditions, or even college auditions. Read More

My main focus is on reaching the student, and fostering their love of music. I am adamant about instilling in students the genuine excitement and desire to pick up their instrument and practice. This is the most important lesson and will never leave a student. I do this largely by integrating what a student needs to learn in order to excel into what they want to learn, and I have had great success with this method. Read More

I've been teaching private lessons for approximately 15 years. I've worked with all ages and skill levels across many genres. I would say my speciality is working with teenagers and adults who are just starting to figure out more specific directions they want to move in, and helping them dial in their goals and musical vocabulary. I love a mixed approach using songs my students listen to, ear training to be able to play by ear more accurately/faster, practical applied theory so that students can take the concepts of songs they love and use them on their own terms, and understanding what it is to be a rhythm section instrument because everyone who makes music is responsible for rhythm. I feel that one of the most important aspects of music that is often overlooked, is that music should be fun. Because of this, I try to keep my lessons focused on material that really excites a student. I believe that its very important to introduce a student to a wide variety of music to help them identify what really inspires them. Once a student has discovered an aspect of music that they're truly passionate about, then they are almost much more motivated to put in the practice to master that aspect of music. Read More
