Overview:
I am a multi-instrumentalist seeking to share my talents with the world! I graduated from the University of Kentucky in 2016 with a Master of Music degree in Music Therapy and in 2012 graduated from the University of Louisville with a Bachelor of Music in Oboe Performance. I love performing music, teaching music, and providing music therapy services. I have played in oboe recitals, high school musicals, church services, open mic nights, tribute bands, hospitals, nursing homes, and performed at Carnegie Hall. I play oboe, English horn, flute, piccolo, guitar, piano, marimba, and vocals.
EXPERIENCE
I began teaching music in high school by leading flute sectionals in the marching band and music theory to my fellow choir members. I focused on performing during my undergraduate studies; then had the opportunity to share my musical talents in a different way when I began my music therapy career. In music therapy, I used music to address musical and non-musical goals. I have taught adaptive lessons for guitar and piano to teenagers through the senior age group. I acquired three adult guitar students last year and helped them achieve their personal goals, such as performing at their sister's wedding.
METHODS USED
For beginners, I start off with the basics. For example, naming each string on the guitar, curvature of the fingers, embouchure on the headjoint of a flute, and achieving a crow on an oboe reed. For school age children, I use books or sheet music used in their own practice at school or Youth Orchestras during lessons. For any ability level, I use any materials during lessons that my students want to work on that achieves their goals but also keeps them motivated. For any age, it is important to assess each individual and what they want to accomplish with lessons. Are you wanting to learn for fun? For a college or mid-state audition? I can help you because I have been there!
LESSON STYLE
I am a music coach that helps students push through the frustration that comes with learning something new, to the gratifying victory of reaching personal goals. With typical and non-typically developing students, adaptive lessons are possible with the use of larger picks or adaptive instruments. Everyone learns differently and as a music teacher, I adapt to the needs of my students. My music therapy experience has prepared me to think outside of the box and provide a musical experience that students will enjoy and want to continue into the future.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
