I started teaching guitar lessons in 1999 (20 years this year!) Since those days I've gotten two degrees and taught at colleges, and private institutions, as well as high school and middle schools. I've found that combining textbook music instruction along with learning to play some of the music the student is listening to keeps them growing and engaged. Most importantly it makes learning music fun! I love jazz and I encourage efforts of composition and improvisation to help the student take ownership of the notes they're learning. Read More

My Senior year, I moved to Plano, and became a part I also marched 4 years on Band 1 side of the trumpet rank at Texas Tech University. I can play super high notes, I have found a trick to playing using full tone, I can teach you, what I have learned and you can apply it to your playing. I earned the Best Pledge award in Mu Phi Epsilon, 2007. With all of this being said I would love to teach your student. Read More

I've got a huge experience for all my teaching and performing life... My lessons are for all ages. I worked with young and old, from ages 6 till 90, and each lesson is tailored to the student's age and ability. After first lesson I can see what method I can use for that student. Young kids I prefer to teach by classical music pattern paying attention to technical stuff increasing technic (scales, chords, arpeggios, etudes...) Students in old ages go through more easy reading song, their favorite, using Hal Leonard's books with names keys....Everything is dependent on for sure... Read More

Instruments: Piano
My teaching style depends very much on what your goal is in deciding to learn to play piano. I can teach you how to play classical piano, piano improvisation, piano accompaniment, or how to play in a certain style with a musical group. Your goal as a student determines the approach we take. That being said, typically, I take a three pronged approach toward teaching: 1. Theory; teach the fundamentals of sight reading and music theory in small increments and apply them by creating custom musical exercises. 2. Read More

I focus on indvidualizing the lesson to the student. Every student has different goals, dreams, and personalities. I typically use the Faber Books for piano, Hal Leonard for guitar and ukulele, and I work in sight-reading with my voice students. I also work in music theory when appropriate, and enjoy explaining the "why" behind how music works. I'm also a singer-songwriter and have tunes on Spotify Apple Music. I write and produce my own songs and have had my compositions performed frequently. Read More

My Grandmother inspired me to play piano. My church taught me to sing. In high school I was involved in band and choir and was selected to tour Europe with a college group. To this day I work with foreign exchange students. In college I continued my musical studies although I majored in Public Relations. This allowed me me to take classes such as oral interpretation and work in radio/TV which enhanced my performing skills. Read More

What advice do you have about practicing effectively?
Set a practice schedule of what you want to work on. Do not waste time on replaying parts that are easy and only focus your time on the difficult parts. This will help you finish a practice session faster and efficiently.
How do I know if my child is ready to start lessons?
If your child really wants to play flute and you see them struggling, have them start lessons as soon as possible. There may be a chance they will get frustrated and give up the flute because they dont have some one to teach them proper technique.
If your child is playing and trying to challenge themself, they may want to take lessons to excel faster in learning and learn difficult material.
When will I start to see results?
Each student learns at a different pace. Each week there will be goals and it is up to the student to practice out of lesson time in order apply techniques learned during lesson.
Did you have a teacher that inspired you to go into music? How did they inspire you?
My elementary school teacher inspired me to play flute. She demonstrated each instrument and when she played pink panther on the flute, I was sold.
Each instructor I had inspired me to work harder to become a better player
Why did you choose your primary instrument?
The band teacher in elementary school played the Pink Panther theme and I wanted to learn how to play that piece. Eventually I practiced more and fell in love with it.
What musical accomplishments are you most proud of?
I am most proud of making first chair in All State Band during high school. I practiced for hours each day and was determined to make it!
Have any of your students won awards or been selected for special honors? How have they succeeded?
Ive had students make it in to all count honor band, all state and received superior ratings a Solo and Ensemble. They followed my advice in the pieces and worked hard to apply those techniques.
What do you think is the hardest thing to master on your instrument?
Defintely the technical skills were difficult to develop but with practice over time became easier.
Do you use specific teaching methods or books? (Ex: Alfred, Bastion, Suzuki, Hal Leonard) Why did you choose them if you did?
Trevor Wye method books, Taffanel method and Rubanks 1 and 2. The Trevor Wye and Taffanel have challenging tone and technical development and the Rubanks books are great for beginner-intermediate studies.
What does a normal practice session look like for you?
I start out with long tones, scales, technical warm ups and then I move on to specific parts in the pieces that are difficult for me and work on that.
What is your favorite style/genre of music to play and why?
My favorite style is contemporary. It introduces modern techniques such as singing and playing flute or pitch bending to the flute.
If you play more than one instrument, how did you decide to start playing the second? (Or 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc)!
I started playing Oboe secondary because my school needed one in the other bands the school had to offer.
When did you decide to become a professional musician? Was it a gradual decision or was there a defining moment for you?
From 4th grade, flute has been my escape from reality. If I was having a bad day I would sit down with my flute and practice. It made me happy. When I got into high school is when I realized that I wanted to make it my career.
