My philosophy is that everyone is musical to some degree and that anyone can be taught to play music. Not everyone can be taught the same way, however, and it takes a highly skilled, creative, intuitive and patient teacher to do that. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. For fiddling, I gauge the students' strengths and develop some exercises that will enhance their sound and overall technique. Then, we choose tunes that are interesting to the student and work through them either one or a few at a time, depending on what is a comfortable work load and also a comfortable challenge. I greatly enjoy the lessons I teach and it is very important to my that my student teaching enjoys them too.
