I have been teaching private lessons on drums, guitar, and bass for a total of 8 years. I started teaching drum lessons when I use to visit back home for the summer during my college years. When I graduated, I started working at a School of Rock in Westchester County, NY. Teaching drums, bass, guitar, and beginner piano. In addition, I also coached and ensemble directed three of the performance groups at the school of rock as well. Read More

I like to take a very personalized approach to teaching and my methods can vary greatly depending on my students goals and interests. I think the most important aspect of learning the guitar is enjoying the process of practicing the instrument. Because of this, I base my lessons on what each individual student desires to learn, teach them concepts in the context of the music that they love, and give them the technical and theoretical concepts behind the music they're passionate about. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Essential Element's for Strings or Beth Lavender's A Better Beginning. These books introduce the fundamental position and note reading techniques in a logical progression. After the student has grasped the fundamentals, they are welcome to bring in contemporary songs. I find that a mixture of fundamentals and fun recognizable songs keeps students both progressing technically and connected to the music. Read More

I'm a performer/composer who comes from a line of professional arts educators. Both my parents and one of my grandmothers are lifelong teachers in musical theater and modern dance respectively. I've learned a huge amount from them not only about my art form but about the skills required to be a good teacher, regardless of topic. Teaching is truly its own set of skills separate from the topic that someone is teaching, and treating this job as such is the difference between someone simply demonstrating skills and actually being a thoughtful teacher. For beginning folk/pop guitar students I use the Hal Leonard Guitar Method. For Classical guitar I use a combination of various resources, including Segovia scales, Sor studies, Guilianni right-hand studies and Frederick Noad method books. I definitely encourage students to work towards performance of the music they are working on, and try to schedule recital/performance opportunities as students deveope and gain mastery over their material. I always try to maintain a healthy balance between keeping the student working on music that challenges them, and advances their technique, with the need to have fun and enjoy the playing of a musical instrument as a means of entertainment and relaxation. I want to set my students up for success. It's important for each student to move at his/her own pace. My studio has a relaxed atmosphere. Each student learns differently. I will do my best to tailor the lessons to the goals, needs and abilities of each student. I want to know what inspires the student. Acknowledging accomplishments helps drive students to progress - motivating the student to learn more. Read More

I have been teaching students off and on since 2007. Regular practice has always been encouraged to my students, but I encourage even more to find the love in learning and playing music. Regardless of age or skill level, my students are all equal to me. As a beginner, learning a new intstrument can be tedious, but that is the pathway of finding the love in the instrument. No matter if my students want to be versatile like myself, use the intrument to accompany themselves, or pursue music as a living or hobby, I will encourage them to share what they have learned to their families and to the public. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
