I start lessons with a quick interview so I can get an idea of what you want with your singing, not only technically I.e. range, projection, pitch etc, but also personal goals, being better at karaoke or sounding your best in a recording studio and everything in between. We then go over basic vocal exercises, the principles of singing, any tension I see encumbering your vocal production. Each lesson will be solely based around the needs and wants of the student based on their age-level, experience, and goals as a musician. We will work on many different vocal exercises and warm-ups to make sure we are strengthening every part of the vocal range. Ear training and music theory exercises can be implemented as well for those students who would like to improve their overall musicianship. As for repertoire, students may bring in whatever they are interested in learning, and/or I am more than willing to choose songs that I think would be fun and challenging within the genre the student wishes to learn. My philosophy is that everyone is musical to some degree and that anyone can be taught to play music. Not everyone can be taught the same way, however, and it takes a highly skilled, creative, intuitive and patient teacher to do that. I love watching my students develop a love of playing music. It's so much fun to learn to play and perform. I encourage hard work and preparation for recitals and concerts. I teach students how to teach themselves by use of recording themselves and to learn how to ask themselves questions and observations to make maximum progress.
