For voice students, I teach basic breathing exercises and fun, sustainable and memorable warm-ups. From there, I begin to prep them for their first solo performances. Once the student is up to speed on chord changing and fretboard knowledge, I will begin teaching them easy songs. With students in their mid-teens and up, I will ask them what their interests are and teach them accordingly to meet their goals. I will start new students, especially young students, with folk songs, games and exercises to train the ear, sense of rhythm, and acting muscles, prepare them to be able to read and understand musical notation, and encouragement to perform in a solo capacity when possible.
