Overview:
My performance experience started at a very young age and consisted of entertaining myself in front of the mirror (at age 2), and creating shows for family. I started doing musicals and concerts at church around age 4 and entered community theatre around age 6. My enthusiasm for the performing arts continued to grow throughout childhood, and my teenage years. I started private Voice lessons at age 16 and studied Musical Theatre at Kent State University for the first two years of college. After graduating with a BA in Music (Voice study), I moved to Nashville, TN and continued to pursue more training in Singing, Acting and Dancing. Nashville also provided many performing opportunities for me. In 2011, I returned to Ohio, and have enjoyed teaching and professional performing in the Cleveland area ever since.
EXPERIENCE
My love of teaching stems from my joy of performing! Because I am passionate about performing, I love to share that passion with eager students who benefit from this joy. It has been a gift and a privilege to work with students of varying ages who have excelled at singing and in the performing arts. Many of my students are active performers who have gained leading singing roles in community theatres, in school and university theatres and in regional theatres. They have also gone on to pursue professional training at LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts), UNCSA (University of North Carolina School of the Arts) and Baldwin Wallace University.
METHODS USED
Much of my training techniques come from my experience with Voice Teacher, Dr. Joseph Collins (PhD, Vocal Pedagogy), whom I studied with while living in Nashville. Dr. Collins made clear to me many secrets to developing proper vocal execution and placement that had been a mystery before. I gained much more awareness and understanding of my own voice. I have enjoyed many years of private vocal instruction while at universities (Kent State University, Belmont University) and have learned good and valuable practices from different professors. But my greatest educational experience has come from working with Dr. Collins. In my lessons, I share these "secrets to success" that I have greatly benefited from over the years.
LESSON STYLE
I work with each student in regard to his/her own singing goals- whether they be for therapy reasons, recreational/hobby, academic/school, or professional reasons. I customize lessons to include these goals and to work with the singer's strengths and weaknesses. Every lesson includes vocal warm-ups that are tailored to each singer's individual voice and gifts. Repertoire is aimed at satisfying and expanding these goals. Because of my Musical Theatre and Church Music background, I can especially help students who are aspiring or working professionals in these genres.
