For beginners, I typically start students off with the suzuki books to build technique, but I teach them from the classical perspective rather than the suzuki method. With intermediate and advanced students, i will introduce solo repertoire appropriate for recital performance and/or a commercial piece (fiddle tunes, pop songs, etc) that the student is interested in learning. For all of my students, I encourage consistent practicing of their instrument in order for them to grow and build their musical skills. Students are given scales, modern and classical pieces to practice. I find the combinations of these three things let most students see how diverse strings can be. Under these teachers I've been fortunate to travel all over the country playing violin, one such location being Carnegie Hall for the crescendo competition. In recent years, I am currently now at Lipscomb University where I'm studying Biochemistry and Music. At Lipscomb, I continued to develop my music education but in a different fashion. I studied bass under Rob Byus, Blake Shelton's bass player.
