I am a 21 year old musical performer, educator, and composer residing in New Smyrna Beach. I started playing the Flute when I was 11 and the Saxophone when I was 12. After only a few months of playing both instruments I knew I wanted to study and teach music for a living, so in high school I got involved in multiple music competitions, out-of-school performances, and other extracurriculars. After the past few years of intense practicing and studying in college, Ive had the privilege of playing the Flute in performances with the Orlando Symphony Orchestra, performing Jazz on Saxophone at the Orlando Museum of Art, and frequently attending recording sessions with some of the top musicians in Central Florida. My initial lesson with the student is to learn what they do and do not know and to establish proper playing and hand techniques. I interact with the students to learn what they enjoy playing and what they want to accomplish as well. It is very important to me to make music fun and interesting for them to learn. I spend the majority of the lesson going over what they were assigned the previous week and then the last part of the lesson is going over what I am assigning for the next lesson and playing some of the music so they can hear what it is supposed to sound like. I have been teaching privately since I was in college and have been teaching ever since. .  I believe in meeting students where they are and encouraging them to practice regularly so they will continue to progress at a rate that keeps them excited and developing a passion for the flute and music.  I use classical music and more modern music to help them explore different styles and to keep having fun!  My students are encouraged to audition for honors bands, enter solo and ensemble competitions Adult students are encouraged to join local flute choirs/ orchestras or local concert bands or community orchestras to broaden their experiences. Once these become ingrained in the student's mind, I will introduce various excerpts based on their skill level, eventually working our way into solo repertoire.
