I have been teaching privately since I was in college and have been teaching ever since. .  I believe in meeting students where they are and encouraging them to practice regularly so they will continue to progress at a rate that keeps them excited and developing a passion for the flute and music.  I use classical music and more modern music to help them explore different styles and to keep having fun!  My students are encouraged to audition for honors bands, enter solo and ensemble competitions Adult students are encouraged to join local flute choirs/ orchestras or local concert bands or community orchestras to broaden their experiences. My initial lesson with the student is to learn what they do and do not know and to establish proper playing and hand techniques. I interact with the students to learn what they enjoy playing and what they want to accomplish as well. It is very important to me to make music fun and interesting for them to learn. I spend the majority of the lesson going over what they were assigned the previous week and then the last part of the lesson is going over what I am assigning for the next lesson and playing some of the music so they can hear what it is supposed to sound like.
