I grew up taking private clarinet lessons in the Seminole county area, all the way through high school before I studied under Dr. Lynn Musco and Mrs. Jessica Speak at Stetson University. While pursuing my studies, I took various pedagogical classes such as Woodwind methods, and Pedagogy for Musicians, both of which I received A+'s in for my final grade. I have been teaching privately since I was in college and have been teaching ever since. . I believe in meeting students where they are and encouraging them to practice regularly so they will continue to progress at a rate that keeps them excited and developing a passion for the flute and music. I use classical music and more modern music to help them explore different styles and to keep having fun! My students are encouraged to audition for honors bands, enter solo and ensemble competitions Adult students are encouraged to join local flute choirs/ orchestras or local concert bands or community orchestras to broaden their experiences. I started teaching 1st graders about basic music concepts at the local elementary school when I was in 7th grade. Once I got to high school and I started to get serious about music, I began teaching private lessons to middle school and other high school students. By the time I was in college, I was capable of teaching lessons to students of any age or skill level. I now teach a wide variety of students between the ages of 6 and 73 and have taught many genres including: Jazz, classical, pop, hip hop, blues, rb, samba, soul, funk, rock, and avant-garde. I love to teach students from the beginning how to have good habits such as, breathing from the belly area. Not only practicing this to support a beautiful tone on the flute, but recognizing how developing a supportive breath practice also reduces stress.. It is also a known fact that according to Dr. Frances Rauscher of the University of California Irvine, with her presentation to the American Psychological Association's Convention, that "early music training seems to shape the young brain, strengthening neural connections and perhaps establishing new ones." Great news!!! Read More
