Instruments: Saxophone Flute Piccolo Music
For my beginners, I like to get to know about my student's personal musical goals and interests. From there, I like to use the fundamentals of their instrument and basic music theory concepts as stepping stones to play songs and ideas they want to learn and put in their own playing. For my intermediate students, I like to keep them learning songs they're interested in while strengthening their grasp on more advanced music theory concepts. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice Flute Synthesizer Piccolo Music
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing the growth of a student and their own delight as they become more successful with their craft. Taking the time to learn the "why" behind the desire to learn an instrument enables me, as the teacher, how to assess the speed at which students can progress. The desire and willingness of a student is paramount to a successful experience no matter the subject matter. Read More
Instruments: Flute Recorder
For me is very important to know what are the students ambitions are from the beggnining; weither they are taking lessons to play flute just for fun or if they have higher aspirations. From there I can make a proper study plan for them as an induvidual, which is paramount in helping achieve the students expectations. For beginners, I will start with all the necessary information that you need about the flute: how to handle the flute, how to clean it up after practicing, and then move onto correct breating, first tone etc...For more experienced fluitests, I will get to know about their background knowledge and have them play the last pieces that have learned to get an idea of where we would start. Instruments: Flute Recorder Shakuhachi
It has a CD, with the band in the background , so it makes it fun for a practice session at home. I also learned "Brain Gym" from one of my flute teachers. I always like to incorporate that especially if the student has some confusion or is stuck on an area like a certain rhythmic phrase, or anything hard to unravel, as well as reading music. In addition, I like to use yellow clear gels over the music should the student have a little trouble with eye tracking or staying focused. Read More
Instruments: Saxophone Flute Clarinet Euphonium Oboe Bassoon Music
For beginners, they must learn how to play the instrument. So books like standard of excellence or essential elements are great resources. I will guide them through what the book cannot explain and help them truly internalize aspects of playing their instrument. For more advanced players, we will work on tone, advanced technique, new styles as well as history, modern practices and more. Depending on their progress , I will ensure any recital music is music that they want to play, as well as music that really shows their progress on the instrument. Read More
Instruments: Flute Oboe English Horn
With beginning students, I have music that I have copied out of various beginning books for them to start learning. I use flash cards for the students to learn the notes and and what the different types of notes and rests look like. It is very important to learn songs instead of working on the boring basics and have very simple songs for the students to learn very soon after beginning so they can enjoy what they are learning. Instruments: Saxophone Flute Clarinet
I grew up taking private clarinet lessons in the Seminole county area, all the way through high school before I studied under Dr. Lynn Musco and Mrs. Jessica Speak at Stetson University. While pursuing my studies, I took various pedagogical classes such as Woodwind methods, and Pedagogy for Musicians, both of which I received A+'s in for my final grade. As mentioned in my bio, I have a diverse and long list of performance history as well (my recent senior recital is linked to my profile). Read More
