My teaching style begins with my assessment of each student's abilities, physical, mental, and emotional. By this method I am able to design a realistic program for each student. I believe in keeping lessons light and fun, while maintaining a strong emphasis on guiding my students toward becoming musically literate. A typical lesson for a younger student may include board games and coloring pages in addition to traditional "on instrument" time. I've had a love for music since I was a child, when my father played classical recordings at home every day. I've played piano and flute since age 10, and the enjoyment of it just keeps increasing! From elementary school through college I performed on flute, including as a soloist, in bands and orchestras; and as an adult I'm continuing that. I've performed in several orchestras in San Diego, and I'm a charter member, section leader, and soloist in the San Diego Concert Band. Read More

I love teaching flute because the practice of creating a beautiful sweet tone emphasizes a focus on the breath which promotes mindfulness and relaxation.
