I believe music is a universal language that every person can learn. Music has always been my passion, and being able to teach and pass along the knowledge of such an emotional force, that brings people together, is a blessing in itself. The beauty of music is that no matter who or how old you are, music always has something new to teach you. I graduated from Cuyamaca College with two AA's, where I performed in the choir. Read More

I always like to simplify the information delivery and maximize the playing. For this reason and, considering the differences that make us all unique, I would generally rely on specific methods depending on the needs of each student. Of course, in general terms, most beginners would have quite a lot of transcribing (playing songs or relevant parts of songs of important musicians), most intermediate students will learn some scales and chords and their uses and most advanced students will learn chord melody (solo guitar), improvising and comping in different styles and writing and arranging songs. I have been teaching guitar lessons for 8 years, both our of a storefront and in home lessons. I began with a couple students 1 day a week, and eventually grew my clientele to 35-40 students per week. I have experience and appreciate working with children, teenagers, and adults. They all offer a different challenging and rewarding experiences as an instructor. Helping children develop a passion for music is one of the most rewarding experiences I can think of. Read More

I've found that the most effective way to teach fundamentals is to do it within the context of my students' favorite songs. This provides instant gratification as the student is able to play something they know and like while at the same time they're learning the techniques they'll need for more complicated challenges in the future. For younger students who haven't developed their own taste in music yet I introduce them to songs of many different styles so that they can start to determine where they want to go musically in the future. My vocal methods are rooted in bel canto style with a strong Melocchi technique using standard repertoire from art songs to stage to develop any voice in preparation for various styles of song. My goal is to help my students go from a singer to a vocalist so that they understand their instrument to be able to create any music as needed. As a piano method I draw from the FABER & FABER method books in addition to online repertoire resources from the standard piano literature varying in styles and difficulties from classical to the four chord structures used in many of today's popular songs and arrangements. Nothing is more rewarding that seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a student's desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

For beginning students, I usually like to start with figuring out their goals. This can be anything from wanting to learn a song, compose music, or simply just figure out some chords to play at a bonfire or social gatheirng. From there we'll look at the fundamentals (what it takes to play a song), and work one step at a time introducing music theory and technique to make it more enjoyable and less confusing. Read More
