The advantages of private lessons over in-class tuition are legion. All children learn differently, no matter how old, and if I can recognize the student's specific needs - be it confidence, focus, a goal - the classes can be tailored to meet individual needs. Another advantage is rate of progress. In class the faster learners can lose interest as the slower struggle to keep up. All can arrive at the destination but not all take the same path.

I am a unique teacher who realizes that not every student is the same, or wants to learn the same type of music in the same way. I almost consider myself more of a COACH than a teacher. Yes, I do teach, and I am classically trained. However, I am more suited for the beginning/intermediate/late intermediate student (13 years of age or older) who wants to learn NEW ways of playing and performing a variety of music. For instance, I can help you make any given song sound more interesting! I personally play light jazz, pop, liturgical, and musical theater/Broadway music. I've performed in such venues as professional theaters and Busch Gardens showband. I am a practical, professional performer whose teaching reflects that sentiment and belief.

I've been playing keyboards since the age of ten. I graduated from Arizona State University where I studied music theory and composition. I have a special passion for composing music, and finished 3rd place nationally in the Music Teacher's National Composition Competition in 1987. As a professional musician, I've toured with The Fortunes, and performed with The Coasters and Ritchie Havens. I have just completed my third CD, titled Jazzed Up. I enjoy performing and teaching all styles of music including, classical, jazz, and pop, and love sharing my passion of music with my students. I believe that music instruction should not only be educational, but also enjoyable, exciting and rewarding.

I began teaching private lessons about 25 years ago, after I had been hired to work with the drumlines for two different high schools.  My first student was in one of the drumlines that I taught, and my second student was referred to me by the band director of another school, after seeing my drumline in competition.  Since then, I have taught more students than I can count.  Most students have been middle and high school age, but I have had lots of fun teaching students as young as 5 years old, and adults who always wished they had learned to play the drums.  I have found that the best way to motivate students is to start by teaching them to play the kind of music they like most, and then introduce them to other styles later.  Lessons are always fun, and catered to the student's needs.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
