I am very methodical and my assessments are of great importance. I motivate and teach each student at their level and get great results. The student plays back the material explained to insure the ability to practice at home the lesson given. It takes time to attain these goals but encouragement and drive is instilled in the students overall experience as to better make headway to attaining his or her goal. As a professional, I transgress the things that took me there. To share my experiences which in turn motivated the learning to a successful level.
I'm currently a new transplant to the Gulf Coast, Originally from NY I've taught in NYC, Boston and Atlanta. I've been a drum teacher for 28 years and my personal students read like a whos who of drumming. For many years I have taught and still teach many of the top professionals and biggest names in drumming. Many professionals fly in to see me, or have me fly out to coach them on their tours or in studio. See my Zildjian Artist Link. I was privileged to have studied with Jim Chapin (who I filled in for and played in NYC with his own personal band when he went on tour for several years). I was the only drummer he picked to do so. I also studied with Dom Famularo, Gary Chaffee, Gary Chester, Franke Malabe. I've been playing professionally since I was in HS. Some of the artists I've toured and/or recorded with: Idina Menzel (Frozen, Rent, Wicked), Sheryl Crow, Jacob Dylan, Lisa Loeb. As a performer I have traveled around the world on tours. I have also played and recorded in studios around the globe as well.
I teach each student to read and vocalize rhythms. We also practice to bass loops and audio recordings. I teach rock, pop, latin, soul, funk, reggae, hip hop, jazz and classical styles.
If the student is a beginner, I always try to instill fundamentals which are needed to develope musical vocabulary. If they have experince, I want to know what type of music they are interested in learning and then guide them in the right direction. The direction I steer them in will contain mechanics to develop skills to become more proficient on their instrument in the style they are interested in learning. Since listening is a huge part of learning, I will also provide historical content relative to their instrument.
For those students who love to forge ahead, I use HARMONY AND THEORY. I don't tend to start out teaching how to read music, but if suggested/desired, I'm aok w/ the notion. I focus on chord tones, diatonic, symmetrical and other scales, syncopation/rhythms, the clave in Latin Music, the metronome, jazz chords vs other chords and more. Drumming wise I use the book STICK CONTROL, and for more advanced students I use an Ed Uribe book about Afro-Cuban styles ... I feel that book takes one to a much higher level!

Purchasing a drum kit can be a significant investment. Drum kits will start at around $500 and will usually include a high hat, crash cymbal, ride cymbal, and a pair of drum sticks. Teachers can also teach drum lessons on bongos, congos, djembes, or other percussive instruments. Most students will also be required to purchase a drum pad for practicing their beats.
Most children should begin drum lessons at around 7 or 8 years old. The drums are a very physical instrument and require a lot of dexterity on the part of the player. Drum students who are learning on a full drum kit should be big enough to reach the pedals, and should be prepared to use their arms and hands for extended periods of time.
Drum lessons will cover drumming techniques, learning to read music, and music theory. The teachers in our network will usually suggest specific method books for the student to use during their drum lessons.
Musika offers customized one-on-one music lessons at your home - a time saving solution for busy parents and students. The convenience of in-home lessons allows you to save time without having to transport your child to class, allows your child to maximize their busy schedule, and provides a safe and familiar environment in which to learn.
Many adults of all skill levels take drum lessons. Your teacher will develop an individualized lesson plan based on your musical needs and goals. Adults taking drum lessons for the first time can expect to learn a lot of new things about rhythm and music, and have fun in the process!

"My daughter has been a student with Mark for over a year. She has come so far and has learned so much in such a short time. Mark is extremely talented and knowledgeable. He is very serious, patient and super nice. If your child or if you really WANT to learn the drums, then I highly recommend Mark. He is our third instructor and the best one yet! You will not be disappointed." Michelle S.

I had always wanted to take vocal lessons, but was very nervous about it until I had the opportunity to have Ali as my instructor. She made me feel very comfortable and helped me realize my strengths while giving me other areas to work on and strengthen. I liked how Ali had me sing out of my "comfort" zone to realize my vocal range. It is obvious that Ali loves music and sharing that love with her students. She is very good at what she does and works well with both male and female voices. I highly recommend Ali and give her solid 5 stars

My two daughters wanted to study piano fore some time now and just recently I found Musikalessons website and teacher Milica. I can only say that my daughters are very happy with their piano lessons and simply adore Milica. They already made a great progress and we're all happy with what they learned in this short period. Thank you Musikalessons and Milica.

"My daughter is 10 years old and has been taking piano lessons with Mr. Dale J. for almost 4 years now. She is progressing nicely. His kind and gentle way make for a very positive learning experience. Mr. Dale J. is encouraging without being harsh or belittling. He is patient and the ideal instructor for my daughter."

There are only a handful of people I count in my life who were great teachers, and Laura is one of them. Her musicianship is so secure as are her technique and personality that she zeros in on my weaknesses and devises exercises to strengthen them, and during the lesson it is not "Do this, no, do that" which is unnerving to a novice. She understands the most important part of study is relaxation, so that is easy to achieve with such a confident and compassionate human. Music is her life and she is eager to share her talent with everyone. A rare find, indeed!

Usually I don't write reviews. I am compelled to write for Feng. I've experience finding/working with many music teachers over the years for different instruments (piano, flute, sax) for kids. I think Feng is the best, he is so passionate about music, he encourages the kids. He teaches thoroughly - you can tell he knows lot about saxophone. I would definitely recommend Feng!!

Lindsey has been coming to our house to give saxophone lessons to our 12 year old daughter for about a month. She is an absolute joy. She is extremely knowledgeable, flexible with her schedule, and my daughter thinks she is "fun" and "cool". We would highly recommend her to anyone wanting music lessons. A+

Bill has been a great teacher for both my 6 yr. old and my 8 yr. old. He is always on time, keeps them engaged, and gives them just enough of a challenge for the next week. They are both beginners, but I am surprised by how much they already know after just a month or so of lessons. Both kids are practicing willingly and look forward to lesson.

Noel is amazing. She is helping me to work toward my vocal goals for auditions to several musical theaters. She has helped me choose strong audition pieces and is teaching excellent ways to get the sound I need in a safe and healthy way. She works outside our lessons on new warm ups and new music pieces. She is the best.
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
